“The Italian Rowing Federation was founded on March 31, 1888 in Turin by five over a hundred-year-old clubs: RSC Cerea (1863), C Eridano (1864), SC Armida (1869), SC Caprera (1883) and SC Esperia (1886). Its first name was Rowing Club Italiano (RCI), but in 1891, under the honorary presidency of King Umberto I and President Edoardo Scarampi di Villanova, the term Regio (RRCI) was added. In 1924 the name was changed to Reale Federazione Italiana di Canottaggio (RFIC), while after the war (1946) the name was definitively changed to the current Federazione Italiana Canottaggio (FIC).”
